As Onyx grew, it became clear that its existing workflows were no longer enough. The warehouse handles around 1,000 SKUs, and during peak periods such as Black Week, the pressure rises significantly. On a normal day, thousands of items are picked. In the busiest periods, that number can reach 30,000 to 40,000 picks. That places high demands on visibility, speed and staffing.
Before implementing Apport WMS, Onyx relied on paper-based picking. That made operations more vulnerable and more dependent on employees with in-depth knowledge of products, locations and routines. Training took time, flexibility was limited, and picking errors created extra work in both the warehouse and customer service.
At the same time, Onyx needed a stronger data foundation to plan more accurately when campaigns and changing sales patterns put pressure on the warehouse.
The task was made even more complex by the fact that Onyx was also in the middle of implementing a new ERP system, Business Central. They needed a WMS that could do more than support picking and packing. It had to work smoothly with the company’s other systems while bringing operations, data and processes together in a more robust daily setup.
